A place-based approach to strengthening the EU chemicals industry in regions and cities

The European Committee of the Regions has commissioned a new study titled "A place-based approach to strengthening the EU chemicals industry in regions and cities". The study is part of the framework contract for the ECON Commission and led by t33. The EU's chemical industry is under increasing pressure. The study explores how place-based approaches could improve this sector's competitiveness and facilitate its transition to more sustainable production processes. The analysis examines the challenges and barriers to sustainable growth of the chemical industry in EU regions, and explores opportunities for local and regional authorities to support the chemical industries in their regions. Through triangulation of desk research, interviews, case studies, a survey, and a foresight exercise, our colleagues, together with t33, will develop recommendations for supporting the chemical industry in a place-based way.
